Rolex

Originally founded in 1905 in London by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis, Rolex was first known as Wilsdorf and Davis. The company registered Rolex as the brand name of its watches in 1908. Today, the company is based in Geneva, Switzerland.

According to Wilsdorf, the name “Rolex” came to him while riding a horse-drawn bus when a “genie whispered Rolex in his ear.” Wilsdorf wanted a short name that would be easy to remember, and say, in any language, and “Rolex” sounded perfect.
